Fact #51
September 10, 2026The United Nations Doesn’t Have Its Own Army
Those soldiers you see wearing the UN’s famous blue helmets aren’t members of a permanent UN military. In fact, the United Nations has no standing army or police force of its own. Instead, member countries voluntarily provide soldiers and police officers for individual peacekeeping missions. Peacekeepers remain members of their own countries’ armed forces; they simply serve under the UN during their deployment.
